Serena was born in Denver, Colorado. Her family moved to a small town in south-central Kansas when she was elementary school. Serena thrived in this small town environment and has worked hard to remember the values she learned there.
Serena attended college at Kansas State University and received her B.S. in Psychology in 2004. She attended law school at the University of Kansas where she was the recipient of the Thompson Law scholarship. While in law school, Serena clerked for the Honorable Stephen Six, then district court judge in Douglas County Kansas. Serena also clerked for Berkowitz Oliver Williams Shaw and Eisenbrant where she got her first taste of civil litigation.
Serena also clerked for the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s office during law school. She accepted a position as an assistant district attorney in Wyandotte County upon passing the Kansas Bar in September of 2008. Serena was exposed to a wide range of cases while working at the district attorney’s office including traffic, DUIs, juvenile law, Child in Need of Care and criminal law. She has hundreds of hours of courtroom and trial experience.
